The Bees

Within our guild, we have several bees with specific purposes. Below is a list of the bees:

Bodacious Bumble Bee

The Bodacious Bumble Bee formed in May, 2014 and meets in members’ homes on the fourth Tuesday of the month to work on service projects. Members include Lori Abbott-Herrick, Joyce Aigner, Barbara Cline, Jane Crockett, Vicki Graham, and Nina Jackson.

70 lap and crib quilts, 11 pillows, 20 pillowcases, three dog beds, and two Christmas stockings were donated during the first year. Valley Program for Aging Services/Homebound Seniors, Our Community Place, Wrap a Smile, Augusta Regional Free Clinic, and Foster Child Program are some of the organizations supported. Members have also donated numerous additional items via the Guild Service Chair.

While currently at the maximum for membership due to meeting space limitations, those interested in participating in a service bee may contact Jane Crockett for assistance in establishing a new service bee.

Eager BEEvers

Several SVQG members first met on August 2009, with the express purpose of sewing to support the guild’s service projects with a focus on service quilts. They became the Eager BEEvers, meeting monthly in the member’s homes before the Covid pandemic. Post pandemic they met via Zoom, one afternoon a week, but individually they continued to sew and quilt throughout the week. The Eager BEEvers adopted this format as their regular meeting schedule and continue it today. Additionally, they meet once a month at a local restaurant for lunch. Occasionally everyone works on the same pattern while individual patterns and projects are sewn other weeks.

While the main purpose of the Eager BEEvers is to support the Guild service projects, they also sew and support other service projects of their choice. In the past they have also made and donated over 300 quilts to the Wrap-A-Smile Rotary Club project, over 145 quilts to A Small Hand (infant pantry), 25 quilts for community needs, 100+ blocks for quilts for North Carolina victims, 220+ quilts to Mission Central in Rockingham County, and 13 quilts for Houston flood victims.

In addition to the quilts mentioned above, BEEvers have sewn and donated over 1400 SVQG service quilts since the group formed in 2009. In addition to the quilts, they have sewn and donated many pillowcases, breast cancer pillows/totes, and surgery drainage bags also for the SVQG service program.
