Our Dedication to Service

At the core of SVQG, lies a profound dedication to community service, driven by acts of kindness and compassion. From crafting patriotic-themed quilts to provide solace to veterans in hospice care, to supporting local organizations through handmade quilt donations, service work is woven into the very fabric of the Shenandoah Valley Quilters Guild.

Our commitment to service was prominently displayed at our recent 2022 quilt show, where 192 quilts were generously contributed to charity, reflecting our ongoing mission to bring comfort to those in need. This brings our total donations to 4,022 quilts to three local hospice organizations since 2011. We have also donated 416 patriotic pillowcases, 1,686 breast cancer pillows/totes, 515 drainage bags and 57 fidgit quilts.

The charitable efforts at SVQG are the result of a collaborative endeavor. While one member may sew the quilt top, another may handle the quilting process, and yet another may be responsible for binding. This team approach allows for participation from all members, regardless of their ability, to commit to making an entire quilt collectively.

Hospice Quilts

Many of us have either encountered or benefited from the services of a hospice program. In recognition of the invaluable support provided by valley hospice programs, the Shenandoah Valley Quilter’s Guild is dedicated to offering comfort to patients and their families through the creation of Lap Quilts.

These Lap Quilts are distributed to three local hospices: Blue Ridge Hospice, Hospice of the Shenandoah, and Rockingham Memorial Hospice. We take pride in offering a diverse range of colors and styles to cater to individual preferences. For our veterans, we specially craft red, white, and blue quilts as a token of gratitude for their service.

Our quilts vary from vibrant floral patterns to more subdued colors tailored to older gentlemen. Styles range from charming 3-inch block designs to creative string quilts and classic log cabin motifs. The preferred sizes fall between 36″ to a maximum width of 60″, with lengths ranging from a minimum of 48″ to a maximum of 60″, ensuring each quilt provides ample comfort and warmth.
